That was a fun two days; the music went pretty well. The audience was thin due to the heat; all the seats were in the hot sun but there were a few hardy souls. My violin playing wasn’t the best it could have been but then I am new to the instrument and the tunes were relatively new. The second day I brought sheet music and was fine.

Stringfield will be playing out at Wilson’s Creek 150th anniversary. We don’t have a schedule yet but I will post that when I get it. We are pleased to have Elizabeth Coleman join us; she will be playing hammered dulcimer and Gail and I get to try out our new instruments. Gail on concertina and me on Mt. Dulcimer, mandolin and fiddle.

I’m been thinking about my choice to play dulcimer; maybe not so much to play the dulcimer but to do that in Springfield, MO. I’ve been playing for about 14 years now and finding people that can and will play with this instrument has been a challenge.

My son has told me numerous times how hard it is to play along with it. He complains that he can’t hear what’s going on. I do know from talking with Barry Smith (our former guitarist) that it does take practice and getting to understand the instrument.

I’ve also been thinking about playing music after the age of … oh, well, after a certain age.

We have been taking a rest from performing; Victoria is ready to go again. If you need a Hammer Dulcimer, rhythm guitarist with a bit of old time mandolin thrown in … let me know.

August 6th will find us at the Downtown Farmer’s Market AND First Friday Art Walk. We are looking forward to playing although the warm weather is a killer! We’ve had such warm weather this summer but hopefully by 6pm it will have started to cool down a bit. So bring your dollars and shop local! Hope to see you there … V

Gail and I played at the Hawthorne Gallery this past First Friday. We had a great time; especially when the classical violinist from Argentina showed up. He was fabulous and made us sound ever so classy.

Gail, Barry and I played at the First Friday Art Walk at the Hawthorne Gallery. It was a great time; lots of folks turned out, the weather was terrific and in general just a great time. The folks at the Gallery were terrific and there was a good time to be had So check them out and support all of the artists!
